Recruiting Campaign

2015

Email #2 (of 3). A series of communications targeting inquiries, driving to apply.

Insight:  The media paints a tricky picture of $F, and cities like LA and NY are top competitors.  Why SF?  Who is SFAI and why do I care?

Concept:   'SFAI is San Francisco', leveraging catalytic currency of SF + positioning SFAI as it's cultural center... and your VIP pass to the cool kids table.

Copy:  YOU COULD STUDY IN A DIFFERENT CITY, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?

San Francisco's art world is eclectic, boundary-breaking, innovative, and grassroots: an international art center. You become a part of it from the moment you step on campus. Unlike New York City or Los Angeles, the Bay Area's art scene is accepting of-and profoundly committed to-emerging artists, curators, and thinkers.

ARE YOU READY?

SAN FRANCISCO: COMMUNITY OF TRAILBLAZERS

+ SFAI alumni art spaces and projects around every corner (Romer Young Gallery, Savernack Street, City Limits, Aggregate Space, Ever Gold Gallery, Will Brown, People I've Loved, Bass & Reiner, ArtPractical, SFAQ, Colpa Press, to name a few)

+ Countless major galleries in the Bay Area, plus a host of world-class museums: de Young, BAM/PFA, YBCA, (SFMOMA will reopen in 2016 following a major expansion)

+ Tech epicenter = new collaborations between curators, artists, and tech entrepreneurs - alumni Jet Martinez and Robert Minervini held residencies at Facebook post-graduation; MA alum Clea Massiani (2014) organized the first curated exhibition at Google featuring SFAI MFA artists

+ Major exhibitions in SFAI's Walter and McBean Galleries bring international leaders in contemporary art and culture to SFAI's doorstep

+ SFAI students contend for numerous awards specifically designed for artists and curators in San Francisco (like the Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Award, SFAI + Kadist Fellowship, and Headlands Center for the Arts Graduate Fellowship)

+ Over 50 visiting artists and scholars on campus annually for lectures, artist talks, and symposia . Recent guests include Marilyn Minter, Laura Poitras, Chris Ofili, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Paul Schimmel, Julie Mehretu, RH Quaytman, Carolee Schneemann, Peter Saul, and Mickalene Thomas, among many others...
